The course and examination are based on the Five Case Model, the UK government's best practice approach to planning spending proposals and enabling effective business decisions. This provides a step by step guide to developing a business case, by:- Establishing a clear need for intervention – a case for change- Setting clear objectives – what you want to achieve from the investment- Considering a wide range of potential solutions – ensuring an optimal balance of benefits, cost and risk- Putting the arrangements in place to successfully deliver the proposalThe purpose of the Foundation qualification is to confirm that a candidate has sufficient knowledge and understanding of the guidance to be able to work effectively with, or as a member of, a team to develop a business case using the Five Case Model. The purpose of the Practitioner qualification is to confirm whether you have achieved sufficient understanding of the theory and application of the Five Case Model to allow them to effectively develop and produce a business case. COURSE OBJECTIVE:
By the end of the Foundation course you should understand the structure and key terminology of the model, specifically:- • The philosophy and underlying rationale of the Five Case Model • The different types of business case, their purpose, who is responsible for them and when they are required in the development of a spending proposal • The development of the business case in relation to other recognised and recommended best practice for programme and project managementBy the end of the Practitioner course you should be able to apply and understand how to tailor the Five Case Model effectively to the development of a business case within an organization environment supporting the approach, specifically: • Understand the development lifecycle of a business case and the relationships between the five cases • Be able to apply the steps in the business case development framework, in order to support the production of a business case, using the Five Case Model, for a given scenario

 

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This qualification is aimed at anyone involved with, or overseeing, a project to understand the work that is necessary to prove a case for investment within the public sector. This includes:- Senior responsible owners (SROs), programme directors and other directors with responsibility for the successful delivery of programmes and projects- Project managers, project team members and specialist advisers tasked with delivering a business case for investment- Officers involved in the scrutiny and review of investment proposals

COURSE PREREQUISITES:
• You must have passed the Foundation qualification in order to sit the Practitioner examination.

This is an intensive five-day virtual course that includes: • All accompanying course material • The cost of the Better Business Cases Foundation and Practitioner examinations (must be taken online via remote proctor within 12 months of purchase)MATERIALSFor last-minute bookings (10 working days or less before start date), you will be issued with digital materials – this will include all accompanying course materials (usually a workbook) and a manual, if this is included as part of your purchase.The course materials will be provided in a PDF format and available for download via our virtual platform on the first day of the course.
